Our Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery is for surgeons who wish to make minimally invasive surgical techniques an integral part of their career. Through this program you’ll gain a thorough clinical grounding in laparoscopic surgery.
What will you do?
The Masters of Minimally Invasive Surgery is a one year course which includes three major components: Theory, Research, and Clinical Practice.
- Theory is comprised of four quadmesters of work. You will complete each course by reviewing the topic material that is presented to you and completing assignments as indicated
- Research is comprised of four quadmesters of work. In quadmester 1 you will complete topics on research methods and research ethics and will be required to identify the research project that you wish to complete for the Masters course.
- Clinical Practice is comprised of three sections: Clinical experience, Online robotic surgery training via the Da Vinci website and clinical immersion weekends.
Where could it take you?
The Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery provides a professional qualification for surgeons from a wide range of surgical subspecialties who wish to have minimally invasive surgery as a predominant part of their future surgical practice. Successful completion of the program will enable surgeons to obtain senior appointments in surgical units where they will be able to perform laparoscopic surgery with a high level of success.
Applications for entry to the Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery close on the 1st of February each year. Applicants should however apply as soon as possible to avoid late enrolment if accepted.

Selection Criteria
Higher Education Study | All applicants must: - be experienced surgeons who have completed, or be within one year of completing, the Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) programs or equivalent - have a surgical fellowship or consultant post with a major interest in minimally invasive surgery - hold a clinical position (this is not automatically offered with the Master of Minimally Invasive Surgery and applicants are personally responsible for obtaining a suitable position) - register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - ELR is a requirement for AHPRA registration - be resident in Australia Additionally, all applicants must provide the following with their SATAC application: - current comprehensive curriculum vitae (CV) - 2 letters of reference - evidence of having completed or be within one year of completing, the Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) programs or equivalent. |
