Indigenous radio first for ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø

's Indigenous broadcasters will make history next week with ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø's first ever Indigenous radio station.
Radio NAIDOC 101.5 FM, broadcasting through Radio ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø, hits the airwaves from Monday, July 4 to Friday, July 8 during NAIDOC Week. ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø is the national focus city for this year's NAIDOC Week, which celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's achievements, culture and survival.
For this special five-day event, Indigenous broadcasters from around SA and Australia will join the Nunga Wangga (or "Aboriginal people talking") team from Radio ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø.
Highlights will include:
- the NAIDOC March and Corroboree in a live broadcast from Victoria Square (Tardarnyangga) on Friday, July 8;
- NAIDOC Forums exploring important Aboriginal issues ranging from social justice and native title to reconciliation;
- showcasing Indigenous musical talent with daily live-to-air performances.
"Radio ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø's programming during NAIDOC Week will help put ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø's Aboriginal community on the national map," says Jupurru Stagg of the Nunga Wangga team. "We are at a confusing time in history when the agenda is changing for Aboriginal people. The aim of our programming is to signal the way forward."
People throughout ÑÇÖÞ²ÊÆ±¹ÙÍø, Australia and the world will be able to tune in to Radio NAIDOC. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities from remote areas to major cities will be linked via the National Indigenous Radio Service. Listeners worldwide can access Radio NAIDOC .
