University community in Australia Day honours

The Australia Day honours list this year recognises members of the University of ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø community.

They include , Dr Penelope Briscoe and Associate Professor Rodney Cooter.

Professor John Beltrame, AM (Professor of Medicine and Michell Chair in ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Medical School) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to cardiovascular medicine, and to medical research and education.

Professor Beltrame has been Head of the Discipline of Medicine, based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, since 2010, and before that Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Medicine. He has an international reputation in coronary vascular disorders and is Director of Research and Cardiology Academic Lead for the Central ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Local Health Network.

Dr Penelope Briscoe, AM (Senior Clinical Lecturer in ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Medical School and Head of the Pain Management Unit at the Royal ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Hospital) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to medicine and medical education, particularly to chronic pain management.

Dr Briscoe has been involved in medical student education since 1984, in her role as Specialist in the Pain Management Unit of the Royal ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Hospital.

Associate Professor Rodney Cooter, AM (Clinical Associate Professor in ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Medical School) has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to medicine, to plastic and reconstructive surgery, and to professional medical bodies.

Associate Professor Cooter has been Clinical Associate Professor in the ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø Medical School since 2001 and, before that, Senior Lecturer from 1994-2000. He has been Clinical Leader, Australian Breast Device Registry, since 2010.

The University of ÑÇÖÞ²ÊƱ¹ÙÍø congratulates these recipients of Australia Day Honours, as well as dozens of alumni and friends of the University acknowledged in the honours list.
